Bob Proctor Does Not Subscribe to the 'R' Word

"Recession Is Not A Concept We Subscribe To"

I was there bright and early, very early - 7:30am. So as I usually enjoy doing, I started talking to people to learn more about them, their passions, and what they do for a living. I started a conversation with Andrew O'Brien, a sales professional for the Bob Proctor group. I asked, "do you think the current economy will have an effect on your business?'.

My question was greeted pleasantly, and almost with amusement. Andrew essentially replied, 'we don't use the word or believe in 'Recession'. 'Regardless of whatever is going on in the economy, there are always people and businesses that can make a lot of money regardless. We stay focused on how we're going to succeed and go after those possibilities'. The focus in his eyes, and the smile on his face told me this was more than a cliche, Andrew O'Brien really believed it.

If you are familiar with the Bob Proctor group, you know their organization is highly dedicated to assisting their clients and organizations build wealth. If you don't know of them, I'll share that they are a fantastically credible organization. Bob Proctor has spent 40 years in the self-growth and development field and when you listen to him talk, he's every bit a focused, charismatic, and highly intelligent businessman that anyone who respects success has to admire.

What Did I Get From The Day?

Personally I do follow economic trends to understand consumer and business behavior. I enjoy watching the patterns of how companies and industries rise, stagnate, or fail simply because each stage holds lessons that allows me to grow and help my clients.

What was invaluable about the day was a reminder of what I've seen independently, 'that regardless of the economy there will always be people and businesses that massively grow'. There is an interesting relationship between what we think about and what we see in the world. As an example, have you ever looked for a particular model and color of car? Within a matter of days and weeks it seems these cars that were no where to be seen on the road start materializing. They seem to be everywhere. All that changed was a person's ability to see what was already there.

Professionally speaking, I've seen the same with myself and other companies. When an organization focuses on all the 'downturn factors' they find lots of reasons why things are bound to be a struggle. However when a business focuses on why they are different, the value they bring, and have a powerful belief they are going to grow regardless of how hard they have to work for it... they do!

At the end of that Saturday, my shoulders felt lighter and my smile was brighter. I was glad for the reminder that instead of focusing on how many companies are going out of business I and my clients are going to focus on how we are going to become even better at what we do and grow.

3 Reasons "Your Mindset" Matters Most In Your Life

As we head into another new and exciting year, I really want to offer you the push you need to realize your potential in 2007. One reason I get so excited this time of year is because I always feel a sense of unlimited possibilities as the new year approaches. I love the starting over and reworking of what didn't work in my personal and professional life last year. And after years of learning and growing and accomplishing some of the many goals I have set for myself, I decided that no matter what you decide to do in and with your life, your mindset matters most.

In fact, your mindset makes or breaks your success in this life in three ways:

One-- Believing in Abundance

Right now you believe many goals are attainable and many are not. The way we were raised and our current environment dictate our beliefs and unless we are challenged and taught to believe differently, we stay stuck. Today--open your mind up to abundance. Take a goal and rewrite it in an abundant mindset. Try to make yourself believe that you can accomplish it even if there is a nagging voice saying "no way!" Then put it where you can see it every day. It can be a financial goal or the number of articles you want to write next year. Whatever you want to accomplish, have, or do. It doesn't matter. Think abundantly and think big for yourself.

Two--Manifesting What You Want

Once you begin to think more abundantly and do it enough that it becomes a practiced mindset, then you will begin to easily manifest what you need, want, and deserve in life. Since manifesting is done in the mind, it in itself is another mindset. You should begin to consciously manifest what you dream of and what you need to accomplish your dreams. That is why writing down your goals is so powerful. It forces you to consciously manifest your wants and desires.

Three--Welcoming the Change

The third mindset and the hardest and most important is being open to change. Many of us are very fearful of change and don't recognize that we are resisting an abundant life because of the safe choices we make. Me included. We limit ourselves because of that risk of failure. We get used to believing what other un-abundant thinkers think because at least then we don't have to put ourselves out there and fail. Change is good--it helps you grow. When you begin to expect change and thrive in the middle of it, you will increase your speed at which you succeed at your goals.

The Secret DVD: A Critical Movie Review

The Secret DVD is a movie purporting to teach the secrets of the
great minds of history.

Directed by Drew Heriot, The Secret holds as a central theme that there is one
secret that society’s most accomplished people knew.

The use of this secret allowed them to excel in their respective fields.

Claiming that the secret was passed down from generation to generation, the director makes the claim that the secret is now being offered for the first time to the general population.

In essence the secret is a set of beliefs that allow an individuals creativity to flourish.

While the motivational techniques might be effective, it is questionable if any of the mentioned people ever used them.

And if individuals such as Plato, Newton, Carnegie, and Einstein ever used them is also questionable.

Even if they did follow some of these motivational techniques, at best the followed them without realizing that they in fact comprised a deeply held secret.

Motivational techniques are important, and can be very effective in helping people overcome their challenges and succeed at their goals, but most of these techniques are based on simple
common sense, not on a deeply rooted secret supposedly passed down from generation to generation.

What is more impressive about The Secret DVD is the compilation of motivational ideas, tools, and strategies that can be used to excel in life.

The Secret can be helpful for those who are looking to develop a winning attitude and formulate a more positive mind set.

Is the Movie the Secret Good or Harmful?

Unless you've been hiding in a cave for the past year or you are not interested at all in anything alternative, spiritual or relating to personal development, you have without a doubt heard of or seen the movie "The Secret."

This has been a very well-done, extremely publicized and super-well marketed movie/documentary on the "Law of Attraction".

Brought to us by the same gang of people who did the very interesting movie "What the Bleep Do We Know," the Secret is probably the first high-budget, widely distributed movie on the topic, or actually on any "personal development" topic.

Today I'm going to look at this movie and give you my own, uncensored opinion, and try to answer the question: is the movie the secret good or potentially harmful?

First a few facts to realize how wide an audience the movie has reached:

- The movie has been a number one best-seller on Amazon.com

- The authors have appeared twice on the Oprah Winfrey show

- With all that publicity, more than 150,000 people have viewed it online and over 700,000 copies of the DVD have been sold in the US alone.

That may not seem big in comparison to a Hollywood production but when you think that all of it has been done through viral marketing it's rather impressive.

So what's behind the buzz?

First you have a powerful movie, in terms of production. A lot of resources and efforts have been put to create a documentary of that caliber.

As for the content, if you've read "Think and Grow Rich" and the other classics of the genre, you know that the concepts shared in The Secret are not new.

The Law of Attraction

The idea is how your thoughts create your reality. It's the law of attraction and abundance. How by thinking about what you want instead of what you don't want you can magically attract everything you want in your life.

The movie appeals to the materialistic desires of the US population. There are examples of people "manifesting" checks in the mail (with really no context of how it happened!). You see people thinking of mansions and expensive cars and see them appear almost as if by magic!

Here's what I think:

- The basic idea behind the movie is good

- The movie presents some important concepts that really should be part of everyone's "mental habits"

- The concepts of the movie, however, when taken to an extreme can be potentially harmful or misleading

- The movie puts too much importance on simple "thoughts" and not enough on the real way to make things happen.

Here's what's missing:

It's not really your thoughts that create your reality, it's your actions and your decisions.

While it's true that it's your thoughts that lead to taking action, it's ultimately your actions that determine the course of your life.

The movie presents two contradictory systems, in a way.

First, you get to think that just by "thinking" alone you can create anything you want in your life.

You see the little boy who wants the bike, he believes he will get it, and BANG, it appears at his doorstep.

You see a man who magically gets checks in the mail for no particular reason.

But then later in the movie, they talk about action. They say that visualizing is not enough... that you've got to "act on it."

So is it really your thoughts that create your reality, or your actions?

The Secret really leaves you believing that your thoughts are powerful enough to create anything.

But then it warns you that you have to take action... So if you have to take action, doesn't this render this "magical thinking" process flawed and irrelevant?

There are two conflicting systems there!

It's your decisions that create your reality

So is it just the positive vibes and the power of belief that allows us to control our lives... or is it that this positive thinking helps us to take the right action, which ultimately is responsible for our reality?

My experience has been: Your thoughts are at the origin of your feelings, which in turn determines your action, which leads to your reality, or results.

But it's really the actions and decisions that determine the results.

Thoughts alone are not always powerful enough to:

- Reverse a disease

- "Attract" the money that you need (without doing anything for it)

- Reverse the aging process

- "Attract" the right partner into your life

And then, comes the question, why do we have the thoughts we have?

It's all the conditioning and the emotional baggage and all of the stuff we really have to deal with if we want to master our thoughts and control our reality.

Magical Thinking

In psychology they have found that children when they are young have something they call "magical thinking," when children believe that whatever they think will happen for real. For example, if a little boy is mad at her sister and wants her to "disappear", and then the sister gets sick and goes to the hospital, the little boy will start to think that her sister's illness was his fault.

But eventually, as healthy adults we grow out of this "magical thinking" and realize that our thoughts don't actually have the power to affect everything around us.

We realize that we can't just believe that we'll win the lottery to solve our financial problems, or that if we have a bad thought about someone it won't necessarily mean that we've caused someone to die!

The people who don't grow out of this magical thinking are usually dysfunctional in some way or another.

Where It's Potentially Harmful

So the Secret, taken to an extreme, can lead people to make irrational decisions about their lives. In fact, I've seen this in "personal development" circles a lot, even before the movie was out, and I've been the prey of this myself too!

The example is someone deciding to buy something they can't afford, putting it on their credit card and rationalizing the purchase by thinking they will just "manifest" the funds to pay it back.

Taken to this degree, this so-called "positive thinking" is nothing but a form of irresponsibility and avoiding the situation!

- Yes, let your thoughts be positive.

- Yes, pray every day.

- Yes, be grateful.

But then, take action! Because ultimately it's really your actions that determine the course of your life. Your actions are what shapes your reality.

All of the spiritual traditions in the world have recognized the difficulty and almost impossibility in trying to control your thoughts. Thoughts fly in an a million miles an hour and even though one day you may think positive, the next day the same negative thoughts can come back.

But you can control what you DO. Often, by getting into action it helps you change your thinking. In fact, a big cause of worry and anxiety is not taking action on what you know you should be doing.

This is the true "Secret". I bet that the producers of the Secret didn't just use positive thinking to make their movie widely successful. I'm quite sure they didn't just put on their dream board "I will sell over 1 million copies of this DVD by the summer 2007".

In fact, I know that they worked pretty damned hard to reach their success. They took massive action.

There's a prayer that I learned from my mother, who at some point learned it from someone who was in AA.

You may have heard it before. It goes as follow:

"God, give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

the courage to change the things I can

and the wisdom to know the difference..."

Bob Proctor Teaches The Law Of Attraction And How To Keep A Positive Mind Set

My name is Keith Weir. First and foremost I wish to thank the " Supreme Intelligence" for having directed the "The Science of Getting Rich" in my direction. I have read the "The Science of Getting Rich" numerous times to date and believe that it was sent to me for a reason. Prior to reading this profound information I had continued to feel lost and astray in the wilderness.

I have a true sense of feeling fortunate, because almost two years ago to date I quit my job after almost twenty years as a front line Child Protection Social Worker. I quit due to being burnt out, depressed and tired of fighting the system. You may wonder why I would feel fortunate for what may sound like a difficult time to go through. Well truth being told, I am grateful for having been in that position of helping people for as long as I was able to, for it has made me who I am today, has given me a loving family and placed me in the best mind set I can ever remember being in.

I now have a completely different mind set that looks at every day as a new beginning and energizes me to believe I can do anything I set my mind to. The "Science of Getting Rich" was introduced to the world in 1910 by Wallace Wattles and holds true to today with the focus on visualization, keeping a positive outlook on life and not viewing things as they appear to be. The movie "The Secret" is based on "The Science of Getting Rich" and the Law of Attraction, which states you manifest that which you think about, whether positive or negative.

If more people were to practice this philosophy and incorporate it into their daily lives, society and the world would be better off. One of the most important things I have learned to date is to not focus on the ills of the world or be consumed with what you do not have. By doing so you only project more energy toward the negative and increase the problem.

I urge everyone to read the book "Science of Getting Rich" and watch the movie "The Secret" as it is inspirational and uplifting. The Law of Attraction crosses all religious, cultural, ethnic and social boundaries. Whether you believe in God or not, it does not matter because everything in is made up of "Universal Consciousness" and expanding energy. It is your choice if you want to attract positive or negative energy and vibration.

Be good to yourself and keep a positive outlook.

Keith Weir

Keith Weir is a social worker by nature and by profession and has been in practise for about 20 years, mainly in Child Protective Services. Although disillusioned by "the system" and having left CPS, he continues to fulfill what he has determined is his mission in life - helping and teaching others to live a better quality of life. Inspired by "The Secret", Keith has dedicated himself to teaching others how to manifest abundance in health, wealth and happiness while minimizing our impact on our environment.

The Science of Getting Rich Lesson One - The Right to Be Rich

You have a right to be rich! As Wallace Wattles states in his ground breaking book "The Secret of Getting Rich". It is not possible to live a really complete or successful life unless one is rich." Wattles believed that no one could rise to his greatest height in talent or soul development without plenty of money. In this first lesson we will look at the reason why you have a right to be rich.

According to Wattles a person develops to the fullest by making use of things. These things could be material such as machines, cars, consumer products or they could be a college education and our society is so organized that it takes money to acquire these things. Therefore according to Wattles "All advancement must be the science of getting rich."

So the first thing one must do in pursuing wealth is to acknowledge that he or she has an unalienable right to be rich. If the purpose of nature is to advance, evolve, grow and reach it's fullest expression of life, then it is your right and obligation to be rich. Everyone naturally wants to be rich to be able to live life to the fullest. Nobody should ever be content to just get by. In fact according to Wattles To be content is sinful!

By being rich we not only enhance our own lives but contribute to the common good. Wattles further states: " It is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich.....It is perfectly right that you should give your best attention to the science of getting rich, for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies. If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your duty to yourself, to God and humanity, for you can render to God and humanity no greater service that to make the most of yourself.

The first lesson in the science of getting rich is to realize that you have a right to be rich. All of nature has an inherent drive to increase. That study the science of getting rich is the duty of all men and woman. By being rich you enrich not only yourself but all humanity.
